Africa's second-highest peak, climbed via the scenic Sirimon route. We acclimatise gradually through bamboo, moorland, and the bizarre giant lobelia zone, before a pre-dawn summit push to Point Lenana for sunrise over the equator. Descend via Chogoria for the most photogenic finish in East Africa.

🛤 Plan by day

Day 1

Nairobi → Sirimon Gate → Old Moses Camp

Depart Nairobi at 07:00, drive 3–4 hours to Sirimon Gate (2,600 m). Begin trek through bamboo and montane forest, climbing to Old Moses Camp (3,300 m). 3–4 hours walking.

Stay: Old Moses Camp (hut/tent)

Meals: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2

Old Moses → Shipton's Camp

Climb through the moorland zone past giant lobelias. Mackinder's Valley opens to dramatic views of Batian and Nelion. Reach Shipton's Camp (4,200 m) by early afternoon for acclimatisation walk.

Stay: Shipton's Camp

Meals: All meals

Altitude: 4,200 m

Day 3

Acclimatisation Day at Shipton's

Rest day with optional ridge walks to Kami Hut (4,300 m) or Hausberg Col. Critical for adjusting to altitude before summit push. Sleep at Shipton's.

Altitude: 4,200 m

Day 4

Summit Day — Point Lenana → Chogoria

Pre-dawn wake-up at 02:30, summit attempt via Austrian Hut to Point Lenana (4,985 m) for sunrise. Descend via Hall Tarns and Lake Michaelson on the spectacular Chogoria route. Long, demanding day.

Activities: Summit climb, descent

Stay: Chogoria Camp (3,000 m)

Meals: All meals

Altitude: 4,985 → 3,000 m

Day 5

Chogoria Camp → Nairobi

Final descent through bamboo forest to Chogoria Gate. Meet vehicle for transfer back to Nairobi, arriving around 18:00.
